Hall...

I've been thinking about painting the ceiling that run's underneath the staircase...

I'm thinking that it should look like its a part of the staircase?

Should I paint it black???

I'm thinking if I do paint it black...that I'll end of the a similar look to the image below???

BUT - the reverse??? If that makes any sense?

  1. Have you thought about the shadows it'll cast? I know it works well in your front reception room, but that's a much larger expanse of ceiling without all the angles. Try painting some long sheets of paper (like those Ikea kids' rolls) with tester pots of black and stick 'em up with decorator's tape. Then leave it up a few days to look at it in different lights. Should you not like the effect, you won't have damaged the white paint work.... Best of luck, M

  2. I've seen black ceilings in rooms with high ceilings like yours. Breathtakenly beautiful--especially with the crystals and brass of the chandelier. Do it.

  9. I absolutely love what you have done with the house! Brilliant! I have a question for you, are the floorboards that you painted the old ones that were there under the carpet? Or did you put them in and if so what type of floorboards were they?

    1. The floor boards are all original to the house.

I was hoping to see oak boards when we lifted the carpet...BUT - unfortunately not! The boards are pine, thats why I ended up painting them! Our building sanded them back and used the saw dust with glue to fill in gaps.

  10. Dare I suggest a colour? Deep teal? smokey blue? Of course, I'm a colour junky, black will look beautiful and austere. Great job on this place!
